UAE President Pardons Egyptian Footballers Convicted for Match Brawl

The UAE President's pardon underscores the bond between the two nations and has brought relief to the Egyptian players and their supporters.

In a gesture reflecting strong diplomatic ties between the UAE and Egypt, the President of the UAE has granted a pardon to three Egyptian football players who were convicted following a brawl during an October 20 match in Abu Dhabi.

The players, representing Egypt’s Zamalek Club, were sentenced to one month in jail and fined Dh200,000 each. This decision came after they were found guilty on charges of assaulting public security personnel and inciting unrest during a heated Egyptian Super Cup semi-final against the Pyramids Club.

According to Egyptian media, the players—Nabil Emad Dongha, Mustafa Shalaby, and team director Abdel Wahed El Sayed—were summoned for questioning on October 21. During the court proceedings, testimonies from victims, along with security footage, supported the prosecution’s case, showing the players disregarding organizational rules and attacking officials responsible for event security.
